Decades of experience have taught us that couples often don’t want the world to know they’re going ring shopping together. So to reduce the chances of your best friends accidentally spotting you in the middle of a jewelry store, we intentionally placed the engagement ring section toward the back, surrounded it with a privacy screen, installed low-profile benches to keep your heads down, and even added a private suite off to the side, if you really need to duck and cover. Engagement ring shopping is fun, and it can also be top secret.

Alternatively, you might want the proposal to be a complete surprise and get started without giving your intentions away. That’s great too! We do ‘proposer-only’ appointments all the time here at Jack Lewis. This means slightly more undercover secret espionage on the proposer’s part because you’ll have to gather information ahead of time (like diamond shape, ring style, and finger size). But if you can gather that (or better yet, if there’s a Pinterest board you can creep), then coming in by yourself first is perfectly fine.
Additionally, if the proposer has questions about pricing, budgets, or financing, it can be a good idea to come in alone first and get some of those questions out of the way. Then sometime later, when you come back and shop together, you can fully enjoy the fun experience without having potentially awkward pricing conversations at the counter.
