CUSTOM JEWELRY DESIGN IN BLOOMINGTON-NORMAL
LET’S MAKE YOUR IMAGINATION REAL

At Jack Lewis, we’re the diamond experts for Bloomington-Normal and all of central Illinois. Since there’s a lot we could share about diamonds, we created this comprehensive diamond resource page. The information below is organized into handy sections for easier navigation. Hopefully it’s helpful as you do your research into buying a diamond.

Custom Engagement Rings & Wedding Bands

Custom Engagement Rings & Wedding Bands

Jack Lewis Jewelers can help you create custom engagement rings and wedding bands. For engagement rings, this will involve a custom design for the semi-mount (the ‘empty’ metal ring without a center stone). There are an infinite number of artistic ways to design the various parts of an engagement ring, from the shoulders, head, gallery, and bridge in the setting, to hallmarks, engravings, and details on the shank. We can also help you decide how many gemstones the ring contains and whether there’s a halo. The possibilities are endless.

If you’re on the fence, here are a few factors that could determine whether a custom engagement ring or wedding band is the right choice for you:

  • You already have the perfect center stone and want it to make sure the ring design amplifies it, not overshadows it.
  • Nothing you’ve seen online seems to fit what you’ve always wanted in an engagement ring.
  • You love your engagement ring, strongut can’t find a wedding strongand that fits with it perfectly.
  • You want strongoth of you to have a set of rings that are unique. Consider designing all three together (the engagement ring and strongoth wedding strongands) with sustrongtle elements that connect.
Custom Anniversary Bands

When it’s a milestone wedding anniversary, you’d love to surprise them with an anniversary or eternity band that shows your commitment for decades to come. Choose a custom project when you want to make sure it looks perfect with the set they already have and love.

Repurpose Existing Jewelry

Redesign Heirlooms & Existing Unused Pieces

Preferences change over time. That piece you wore 20 years ago may not match your style anymore. Or maybe it simply doesn’t fit. Or often, we see clients who received a treasured heirloom from an older family member, but it’s not something they’ll wear, so it just sits in a box. Don’t let this be your reality.

Jewelry is made to be worn and loved, and at Jack Lewis, our favorite projects are taking old pieces, reimagining them, and repurposing them into something new that you’ll actually wear. For example:

  • The diamonds and gemstones from a beloved pin can be turned into pendant.
  • An inherited ring can be resized, strengthened, and updated to fit your style.
  • Estate jewelry from a loved one can be transformed into new pieces and distributed across the entire family, such as cufflinks and earrings.

So search through your old jewelry drawer. Find the pieces you don’t wear, and bring them to Jack Lewis. Let’s redesign and restyle them into the most important jewelry pieces in your collection, something you’ll wear and experience for every day moments or special events.

At Jack Lewis, we’ve had the honor of designing some of the most unique and treasured colored gemstone jewelry. Whether you already have a gemstone that needs to be seen, or are looking to curate a mother’s ring featuring birthstones from all of the most important people in your life, our Custom Design team can bring your idea to life.

Free Custom Jewelry Design Consultation

Free Custom Jewelry Design Consultation

Depending on the piece, the process starts with a free custom jewelry design consultation, which will yield several draft sketches—either from scratch or based on an existing idea. We strongly believe that creativity cannot be forced, so each job is treated as one of a kind. If you have photos, video, or your own sketches, please bring them with to help us visually understand your ideas.

Depending on several variables (like your budget, the availability of the gemstones and metals in the design, and—most importantly—whether you’re satisfied with what we’re coming up with), this initial creative process can take as little as a few days or sometimes several weeks to hammer out.

Simply put, we’ll take as long as needed to design the piece that will mean the most to you. And there’s no extra charge for this. The consultation process isn’t done by the hour. Our time is valuable, but so is this piece of jewelry. You have our permission to take as long as you want with the initial design discussions—without fear that you’re “racking up a huge bill.”

Digital 3D Mockups

Digital 3D Mockups

Once you and our design team have the initial ideas sketched out on paper, we’ll draft some digital mockups to breathe dimension into the piece. With this technology, stones and specifications are depicted accurately to display precise measurements that reflect what the finished product will look like and allow you to see your design from 360 degrees.

Wax Model

Wax Model

When the final design is nailed down, the next step is often having a wax model produced. The wax is a physical representation of your piece, and many clients find it helpful in giving a fuller sense of the piece’s size and scale. In most cases, we’re able to provide these demo waxes to you free of charge, but there are occasionally exceptions, so please ask for details.

Final Quote & Production

Finally, we’ll provide you with a formal price quote. When you accept, the special order is placed and the clock starts ticking—usually 3 to 6 weeks. A member of our custom design team will frequently follow up with updates pertaining to specific parts of the process as needed, until the glorious day when your finished piece arrives and we get to call you shouting: “It’s here! And you’re gonna love it!”

After that, we recommend you bring your custom piece in at least once a year for a free deep cleaning and inspection to ensure all prongs, stones, and clasps continue to do their job and aren’t impacted by normal wear and tear. Just stop by whenever it’s convenient for you or you can always text us to let us know you’re coming.
